Barbara Daniels Gillikin, 70, of Bettie, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City.

Barbara's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to nurturing and guiding the young minds of countless children over a fulfilling career that spanned more than three decades.

Barbara's gentle spirit and kind-hearted nature left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her passion for childcare was not just a profession but a calling, which she pursued with joy and dedication. She was an active member of various associations, where she contributed her time and expertise to advance the quality of early childhood education. Her influence extended beyond the walls of the daycare, as she touched the lives of families, instilling values of love and care in the community.

Aside from her professional life, Barbara was known for her simple pleasures and endearing quirks. She had an affection for the crisp crunch of ice, the comfort of scrambled eggs, the sweetness of pies, and the refreshing taste of Mt. Dew. These small joys were a testament to her appreciation for life's simple delights.

Barbara's love for children was the golden thread that wove through the tapestry of her life. She approached each day with the same sweetness and kindness that she would a child in her care. Her legacy of love and devotion to the well-being of children will continue to resonate in Carteret County and beyond.

She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Lawrence and husband, Eddie of Bettie; son, Kevin Lawrence of Cedar Island; two grandchildren, April Lawrence of Eugene, OR; Allison Warren of Otway; great grandson, William White Jr. of Beaufort; sister, Dolores Lawrence of Beaufort; special niece, Heather Daniels of Cameron, NC; and Vince Jr the family cat.
