Kenneth Tillett

September 29, 1938 — April 9, 2024

Kenneth P. Tillett, 85, of Atlantic, originally of Ocracoke, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Pruitt Health Crystal Coast.


Kenneth proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, upholding the values of honor and commitment. After his military service, he transitioned to civilian life with the same vigor and dedication. Kenneth began his career in transportation as a truck driver for Mayflower and later for Beacons Moving Company, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor.


His love for the open road led him to drive freight trucks for James Styron, where he was a respected member of the team. Kenneth's journey continued as he took on the role of fuel truck driver for Eddie Bo, showcasing his versatility and ability to adapt to different challenges. Always connected to the sea, Kenneth spent 15 years shrimping, a testament to his hardiness and connection to the coastal life.


In his later years, Kenneth contributed to the community by working for Carteret County, spraying for mosquitoes and ensuring the well-being of the area he so loved. His dedication to his work was evident in the meticulous care he took in every task he undertook. Kenneth was a member of Stacy United Methodist Church.


Kenneth Tillett’s life was a tapestry of service, hard work, and commitment. His legacy is one of perseverance, a friendly smile, and the impact he had through his varied career. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him in his rich and storied life.


A private graveside service will be held at a later date.


He is survived by his wife, Eunice Kathleen Tillett of Atlantic; son, Kenneth “Beaver” Tillett and wife, Leslie of Ocracoke; three grandsons, Holden, Andrew, and Kyle Tillett; four sisters, Marion Davis of Gates Co.; Shelia Moore of Harkers Island; June Tillett Guthrie and husband, William S. Guthrie of Harkers Island; Donna Pinker of Harkers Island, brother, Jesse Wayne Tillett and wife, Lori of Sanford, NC.


The family would like to thank Steve and Carol Etheridge of Hatteras, NC for their friendship and care.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Fannie Tillett; and his son, Justine Elbert Tillett; and sister, Vicki Fulcher.
