April 28, 1933 — May 8, 2023

Obituary Larry Clarence Pittman, 90, of Beaufort died peacefully in his home on Monday, May 8, 2023, surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Bridgeway Church of Beaufort with Rev. John Carswell and Rodney Fulcher officiating with Mack Willis providing the eulogy. Interment will follow the service at Carteret Memorial Gardens in Beaufort. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, from 6-8 PM also at Bridgeway Church. Larry was born and raised in Stacy, NC, where his days were full of setting nets to catch some spot or mullets, eating some good cooking, playing baseball, and spending time with his older brothers and sister. On April 24,1953, Larry married Lydia Frances Blake Pittman. They had two children, Larry Allen and Anita. After he served his 3 years in the Coast Guard on the Diamond Shoal lightship, he returned home and became a land surveyor with Gray Hassell. Later, the family spent 6 years in Virginia Beach where Larry worked as a supervisor at the Berkley Steel foundry in downtown Norfolk. When they returned to Beaufort, he picked up where he left off as a land surveyor, the job he did up until he was 83 years old - for over 50 years. He could tell you many stories about many properties all over Carteret County. On the weekends, Larry would go to Stacy, set the net, eat lunch with his sister and visit with his family. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting with family and friends and doing word search books. He enjoyed eating seafood and snacking on chocolate. Larry loved talking about the history of Carteret County. He enjoyed getting to know people by asking about "their people". Everyone who spent time with him loved to hear him tell a story. He had a wealth of knowledge about history and life to offer to anyone who was willing to listen. Larry was fortunate to receive incredible care from some amazing medical professionals and caregivers - Dr. Jamie, Trisha, Ginger, Brenda, Stephanie, and Brandy. Our family will be forever grateful for their love and support, especially during the past few weeks. Larry was born on April 28, 1933 to the late Andrew and Martha Laura Pittman. He is survived by a daughter, Anita Willis and her husband, Mack Willis; daughter-in-law, Kim Pittman; two granddaughters, Beth Johnson (Jay) and Katie Johnson (Jeremiah) and two grandsons, Chris Pittman (Michelle) and Joseph Willis; five great grandchildren, Jacob, Blake, Carter, Lydia, and Bella; sister-in-law, Thelma Pittman; sister-in-law, Ella Stroud; sister-in-law, Jeanette Blake; and many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
