Robert 'Bob' Barry Johns

Robert Barry Bob Johns passed peacefully at the Crystal Coast Hospice House on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Bob was born August 1, 1938 in Lancaster Pennsylvania to Robert Bair Johns and Thelma Louise Hemperly Johns. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship in Morehead City with Rev. Sally White officiating. In High School Bob was a sportsman, he sang in St. Johns Episcopal choir, he played on the state Legion Allstar Baseball team in Connie Mack Stadium and he lettered in basketball and cross country. At Bucknell University he played varsity basketball and earned degrees in math and engineering. Bob started his professional career with GE then moved to Northampton MA where he joined Tighe and Bond Engineering firm. His Civil Engineering career focused on the construction of public works including the first pelletizing waste water treatment plant in Boston Harbor. Bob was an avid sailor. He retired in 1996 and he and his wife moved to Beaufort, NC, which they had discovered while cruising the eastern seaboard and the Bahamas in 1984-85. Bob loved sailing, fishing, crabbing and raising oysters under his dock from his home on Adams Creek. Bob will be missed by his loving wife, Pamela Holliday of Beaufort, a sister and brother-in-law Nancy Johns Grimm and Arthur Grimm of Lancaster PA, a daughter-in-law Joy Johns and his 6 year old grandson Cooper Thomas Johns of Cummington MA two cousins and their families and many dear friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Bethany Louise Johns Charrette, a grandson Carl Robert Charrette and most recently his son, Craig Gifford Johns.
