Alice Shaver Marsh, 95, of Harkers Island and formerly of Elkview, West Virginia, passed away on April 1, following a life well lived. Her heart never fully recovered after the loss of her beloved husband, Jim, in December.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00pm, Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Vergie Mae Cemetery in Harkers Island.
Born on August 29, 1930, in Wyatt, West Virginia to Larnard and Virgie Ashcraft, a coal mining family, Alice lived a life grounded in faith, resilience, and a deep love for those around her. She was a strong and devoted woman who found joy in the simple things, tending her garden, cooking for family, and making a house feel like home.
Alice had a special talent for finding a good bargain and took great pride in the things she cherished. If you gave her a gift, you could be sure it would be treasured for years to come. Her life was a beautiful reflection of God’s love, shown through her kindness, generosity, and the quiet, steady care she gave to others.
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jim” Marsh. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Harry “Chip” Shaver and his wife Nancy of Elizabeth, West Virginia; her daughter, Cindy Lehner and her husband Greg of Cary, North Carolina; her stepdaughters, Shelly Hodges and her husband Jim of Nitro, West Virginia, and Barbara Nicholas and her husband John of Newport News, Virginia. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Christie Shaffer of Mansfield, Ohio; Joseph “Joey” Shaver of Salem, West Virginia; Nikkole “Nikki” Shaver of Morgantown, West Virginia; Noah Lehner, Ryan Lehner, and Jessica “Jessie” Lehner of Cary, North Carolina; Kelsea Hasbrouck of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and Wesley Nicholas of Newport News, Virginia; as well as five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be mailed to Free Grace Wesleyan Church, PO Box 458, Harkers Island, North Carolina 28532, or SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House here.
