Alvah James Goodwin, Jr, 80, of Cedar Island passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024, at Bridgeway Church in Beaufort. The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Cedar Island Community Cemetery in Cedar Island, with Rev. Merle Hunt officiating.
He was born, September 12, 1943 in Carteret County. Alvah, was a loving father and grandfather, who was often found at the ball field cheering his grandchildren on, or just visiting with them at home.
He started working at age 17, on a dredge boat where he worked up to the title of Deck Captain, and continued in that role for many years, until he became a commercial fisherman along with his late wife.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, his parents, Alvah James Sr. and Alice Goodwin, and his sister, Judy Daniels.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff Goodwin (fiancé Lindsay), Steven Goodwin (wife Renee), grandsons, Austin Goodwin (girlfriend Logan) and Tanner Goodwin, granddaughters Brian and Katie Goodwin, brother, Louis “Soddy” Goodwin, and sister Virginia Moore, special cousin Stephen Goodwin. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.
