Andra Joy Hamilton Pond 94. of Beaufort, passed away peacefully at Hospice House Newport on Sunday 12/21/25. She was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and will forever now celebrate Christmas in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Beaufort. Please wear festive Christmas attire and bright colors to honor Andra's love for the Christmas season. Despite the road work around the church, the parking lot on the corner of Ann and Turner street is open through Ann St.
Born June 28, 1931 to Andrew Jackson Hamilton and Lulia Messick Powell Hamilton of Durham, NC. She graduated Durham High School and Louisburg College, then got a Masters degree from UNC-CH in Psychiatric Social Work in 1955, the same year she married Eugene Blakely Pond of Davis, NC. She came to work in Carteret County with the Dept of Social Services. She later worked with The Neuse Mental Health Clinic in New Bern and Beaufort, and in her own private practice in New Bern. She served on the State Mental Health Board under Jim Hunt when he was Governor. Eugene and Andra had 2 children, Andrew Blakely Pond and Heather Pond Williams of whom she was very proud. She often said they were her greatest success, as she reared them to be good honest hard working citizens, and followers of Jesus. Mrs. Pond worked for many years within the local and state Democratic Party and was awarded a Star from the local democratic women.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Beaufort for 63 years. She taught children's Sunday School, was an Acteens Leader and was still teaching a women's Sunday School class. She was very knowledgeable about the Bible and biblical history and loved sharing all that she had studied.
She ran an antiques shop on Craven Street for a while and continued to deal in antiques as a flea at Beaufort Marketplace on Turner Street until the shop closed in April of this year.
She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, aunt, and neighbor.. Her family consider themselves Blessed.
She is survived by her daughter Heather, son in law Jim Williams, beloved granddaughter Alexandra Blake Williams, brother in law Edward Pond (Dorothy) of Davis, NC, nieces Donna Hamilton Jackola (Mark) of Durham, Linda Hamilton, Andi Crabtree Barnard, of Dunwoody GA (Ott) Priscilla Pond DiNatale, (Tony) of Atlanta GA, Anna Pond McLamb (Jeff) of Raleigh; sister in laws, Barbara Duncan of Durham, Thelma Pittman of Davis; nephews, Chris Crabtree of Clemson, SC, Richard Pond of FL; great nephews, Eric Jackola, Cole Pond, Anson McLamb; and great nieces, Alexis and Christina DiNatale, Nora McLamb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Eugene, beloved son Andy, in laws Blakely and Effie Davis Pond, sister Paula Powell Crabtree, brothers June (Joe) Powell, and Donald Hamilton, and great niece Heather Jackola.
