Betty Jo Dudley Ward

Betty Jo Dudley Ward, 74, passed away on December 31, 2025, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday at the family home, 293 Pinners Point Rd. in Beaufort for food and fellowship. 

Betty Jo dedicated her life to caring for others. She served as a nurse at Carteret General Hospital for 35 years, where her compassion and commitment left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues. 

Betty Jo found strength and solace in her faith. A fierce prayer warrior for those she loved, she was a faithful attendee of both First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort and Free Grace Wesleyan Church in Harkers Island. Her spiritual devotion was a guiding light throughout her life.

Outside of work and worship, Betty Jo found joy in gardening. Tending to her plants brought her peace and fulfillment—a reflection of the nurturing spirit she shared with everyone around her.

A devoted mother and sister, Betty Jo is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Penelope Ward of Beaufort; son, Ashton Ward of Beaufort; sister, Lisa Lane and husband Hobson Lane of Beaufort; Her beloved canine companion Luna was always by her side; Along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lucy Dudley; her sisters Mary Ann Dudley Poythress and Lou Hobgood; and her husband Donny Ward.

Her memory will live on through the lives she touched with kindness, strength, and unwavering love. May her legacy bring comfort to all who knew her.
