Carl Mack Edwards Jr.

Carl Mack Edwards Jr., 87, of Otway, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at his home.

Carl was a talented decoy carver and one of the last original Promise Landers of Morehead City. He proudly served as a medic in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated 20 years to his career at Cherry Point before retiring. Among his many accomplishments, Carl Mack and his best friend Capt. Ben Day won the Fabulous Fishermen tournament in Morehead City in 1961, which is now known as the Big Rock Tournament, a testament to his skill and passion for fishing.

The family will celebrate his life privately.

He is survived by his son, Robert Edwards and wife, Jamie Jones Edwards of Otway; grandchildren, Alex Edwards Shuette and husband, John of Lexington, KY; Creedance Creech Berthold of Morehead City; Jesse Creech and wife, Christina of Bettie; great grandchildren, Alana Inabintt of Newport; Jesse James Berthold of Morehead City; brother, Charles “Buster” Edwards of Beaufort; sister, Alta Sandlin of Florida.
