Carletta Cannon Dabney, 66, of New Bern, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Crystal Coast Hospice in Newport.
To know Carletta was to know kindness, generosity, faith, and a little bit of spice. She never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel loved, welcomed, and cared for. Whether she was cooking a meal, offering a listening ear, saying a prayer, or simply showing up when someone needed her, she gave of herself wholeheartedly.
A devoted nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carletta spent her life caring for others. She loved gathering family around the table and celebrating life's special moments. Her greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Linwood M. Dabney III; her children, Kayla Cary, Susanna Bilichka, and Jared Dabney; her cherished grandchildren, Mason Cary, Chandler Cary, Finn Bilichka, Remy Bilichka, and Ethan Moore; her siblings, Susan Rimmer, Carl "Bud" Cannon Jr., Joy Bailey, and Alesia Chadwick; and her stepmother, Elizabeth Cannon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Cannon Sr. and Linda Murphy Robinson; her sister, Suzette Weatherington.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort. Burial will follow at Cannon Family Cemetery in South River. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins at the church.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she has been made whole again, free from pain and at peace. The love she gave, the lives she touched, and the faith she lived by will remain with those who were blessed to know her.
