Claudia Jones James

Claudia Jones James, 69, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at PruittHealth Crystal Coast after a courageous seven-month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor.

Born on June 14, 1957, in Chesapeake, Virginia, Claudia was the beloved daughter of Claude and Barbara Jones. She grew up in Great Bridge, Virginia, and went on to build a life marked by kindness, dedication, and love for those around her.

Claudia devoted more than 40 years of her professional life to accounting, working at St. Bride's Correctional Center, Southeastern Virginia Training Center, and ultimately at Old Dominion University before retiring. Following retirement, she embraced what she considered her favorite and most special job: moving to Beaufort, North Carolina, to help care for her beloved grandson and best friend, Blake.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Claudia's warmth and generosity touched countless lives. Her daughter, Kendra, was her best friend. If you knew one, you knew the other. They did almost everything together, and Claudia was never more than a phone call away. Together they shared many special trips and countless treasured moments, whether traveling or simply spending time together at home.

Claudia also cherished the simple, quiet moments with her husband of 41 years, Russell. Some of their happiest times were spent sitting together on their screened porch, watching the birds and enjoying each other's company.

She found great joy in spending time at the beach, especially at Carova Beach, North Carolina, a place that brought her peace and happiness. She also loved lighthouses and sea turtles, treasures of the coast that reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of the ocean.

Those who knew Claudia knew she was truly a gem — compassionate, strong, wise, and generous, with an unwavering love for her family and friends. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 41 years, Russell James; her daughter and best friend, Kendra James Johnson; her grandson and best buddy, Blake James Johnson; her brother, Kim Jones, and his wife, Betty Jones; her nieces, Denise Lex and Debbie Alvis; and by all of "Claudia's Crazies," whose love, friendship, and support carried her and her family throughout her glioblastoma journey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Barbara Jones; her son-in-law, Michael Johnson; and her two special grand-dogs, Buddy and Dameon, who brought her much joy and companionship over the years.

Claudia's legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the love she shared so freely. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
