Connie Gillikin

Connie Raye Gillikin (Lewis), age 83, of Straits, NC passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Newport, NC after a long period of declining health. Born on May 3, 1942, in Harkers Island, North Carolina, Connie lived a life devoted to her family and community.

The youngest child of the late Martin "Mart" Lewis and Iona Willis, Connie was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Kimberly R. Gillikin, and her siblings, Lucy Revels, Garrett "Tom Tom" Lewis, and Eva Martin Lewis.

She is survived by her loving children: Steven H. Gillikin and his wife Sherri of Clayton, NC, Cecilia D. Rose of Otway, NC, Debra A. Gillikin of Gloucester, NC, and Cecil K. Gillikin of Otway, NC. Connie also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Casey Gillikin-Carter, Emily Gillikin, Chuck Rose, Devon Willis, Hunter Willis, Dana Gillikin, Elijah Gillikin, Gavin Burgess, Eden Burgess, and Courtney Martino; as well as six great-grandchildren.

Connie dedicated many years to the food service industry and was celebrated for her expertise in traditional Down East cuisine. She worked in several popular local restaurants before concluding her career at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a lasting legacy of love and generosity.

A funeral service will be held on at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1007 Island Rd., Harkers Island, NC. Burial will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 pm.. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Relief Society of the Church.
