Donna Cheryl Hamilton Davis, 75, of Harkers Island, better known as "Mammie", was born on February 10, 1950, to the late Curvis Harold Hamilton and the late Violet Fulcher Hamilton Swinson in Sea Level Hospital, Sea Level, NC. She departed from this earthly life on Friday evening, May 16, 2025, at Pruitt Nursing Facility in New Bern, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor "DJ" Merle Hunt Jr. officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island. A visitation will take place from 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to the service, at the church.
Donna Cheryl was a Down Easter through and through. She was raise in Sea Level and Harkers Island, but it was Harkers Island that she truly called her home. She loved Cape Lookout and riding to Shell Point some kinda good. Donna was a free spirit who loved to laugh and make other people laugh. She loved her family, especially her four grandchildren who she adored. She was a caregiver. She took great pride in doing for others. She was a devout Christian who loved her church, her church family and spent man years in service to God even though in later years her failing health prevented her from doing so.
Donna was full of gumption and held several jobs in her life, some of those including working at Rose's Department Store, Open Grounds Farm, Beaufort Elementary School, cleaning homes for people, babysitting, cooking for hire, and working as a caregiver for those in need, among many other things. She also made a variety of craft items and sold them to make extra money for Christmas at times.
She is survived by her children, Dione Davis Willis (William "Bill") of Beaufort; Amanda Kelley Davis of Davis; John Derek Davis (Tiffany) of Davis; a brother, Jesse Ray Swinson of Morehead City; five grandchildren, Edward Ross Willis, Jackson Thomas Willis, Kristen Gray Willis of Beaufort, John Grady Davis and Wyatt Grayson Davis of Davis; and two fur grandbabies, Beeker and Addey of Davis; her aunts, Colleen Krupa, of Sea Level, Dahlia "Junie" Carter, of Matthews; nieces, Jane Pittman Stockinger (Rudi) of Climax - daughter Jessi and Jinger Pittman Fulcher of Stacy, sons, Jaden and Ethan. Donna also leaves behind many other relatives, friends, and loved ones that she held very dear.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Curvis Harold Hamilton; her mother, Violet Fulcher Hamilton Swinson; her stepfather, Jesse Swinson; her sister, Janie Hamilton Pittman; her paternal grandparents, Harold Hamilton and Mamie H. Hamilton; her maternal grandparents, Andrew T. Fulcher and Vivian J. Fulcher; her aunt, Sadie Hill; and four uncles: Roscoe Hamilton, Garland Fulcher, Jay Fulcher and Wardie Fulcher.
