Donny Ward

On the afternoon of August 29th, Beaufort resident Donny Ward passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, September 5, 2025 at Soundview Church in Newport, NC. Burial will follow at Cannady Memorial Cemetery of Newport. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00pm at the church on Friday.

Growing up as the youngest of five children to the late Clifton and Myrtle Ward of Gales Creek, Donny was like most boys always getting into something around the community. He was very active in scouts where he attained the hard to reach rank of Eagle Scout. After the passing of his father when he was still young Donny was then raised by his mother whom he developed a deep love and admiration for.

After graduating high school, Donny worked several different jobs until he found his life’s calling of public service by way of law enforcement at Atlantic Beach Police Department. While serving his community he would meet the love of his life, a nurse named Betty Jo.

After having to retire from Wilson County EMS where he served as a paramedic, Donny continued to help all those he could all while getting great joy from it.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Betty Jo, his two children Penelope and Ashton, his sister Betty Geneva Ward, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Donny is preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Myrtle Ward, sister Carol Ann Ward, brother David Clifton Ward, and half brother Daryl Garner.
