Doris Murray

Doris McClain Murray, 90, of Beaufort, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025 at her home in Beaufort.

Ms. Murray dedicated her life to education, beginning her teaching career at Vanceboro Elementary School before moving on to Beaufort Elementary. She spent over 25 years as a devoted teacher at Smyrna Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. Even after retiring from full-time teaching, she continued to share her passion for learning by serving as a substitute teacher at Morehead City Primary.

A committed member of Purvis Chapel in Beaufort, Ms. Murray was known for her steadfast presence and involvement in the church community.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 13, 2025 at St. Stephens Congregational Church of Beaufort.

She is survived by her daughter, Darryl McClain Murray of Beaufort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Phyllis McClain; two brothers, Willie Henry and Thomas McClain and her two sisters, Annie Parker and Francis McClain.
