Dr. Donna Gail Goodwin, 74, of Beaufort, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 1, 1951, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Donna was the daughter of Margaret (née Griffin) Goodwin and James Stanley Goodwin. She graduated from Fuquay-Varina High School in 1969 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in biology from North Carolina State University in 1974. Later in life, Donna pursued her passion for helping others, earning her Doctor of Psychology from the University of Hawaii/Argosy University.
Dr. Goodwin dedicated her career to clinical psychology, initially serving active and retired members of the U.S. military in Hawaii. She then established her own private practice in Haleiwa, Oahu, where she continued her compassionate work. In her later years, Donna embraced online platforms to extend her psychological services to clients, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her profession.
Donna was known as a kind, intelligent, and loving woman who embraced a full and adventurous life. Her passions included travel, service, family, and friends. She delighted in outdoor adventures and nature, with a particular love for bird watching. An avid traveler, Donna explored distant lands, including New Zealand, Australia, and Antarctica, and embarked on a memorable cross-country road trip from California to North Carolina. Throughout her life, she also resided in Seattle, Kauai, and Oahu, before returning to her home state in 2021, settling in Beaufort, North Carolina.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sisters, Sue G. Davison (Tom Davison) and Brenda G. Gregory, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
