Edward "Eddie" Earl Dunn

Edward Earl "Eddie" Dunn, age 63, left this earth peacefully on September 19, 2026, at the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, North Carolina.

Born and raised in New Bern, Eddie attended St. Paul's Catholic School and remained a lifelong fixture of the community he loved. He spent his career working as a welder and dedicating much of his time to working on boats. A man of immense mechanical talent, Eddie possessed a remarkable gift for building high-performance engines for drag racing. He loved spending time at the local dragstrip in his hometown, where he was right in his element among horsepower and fast cars. Eddie could build, fix, and shape almost anything, yet he remained incredibly humble about his many skills.

To know Eddie was to know true kindness and grace. He possessed a generous heart, always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Even as he faced his own challenges, he greeted the world with a constant smile. He valued independence deeply and never wanted to burden others; when help was given, he expressed his gratitude repeatedly, never taking a single act of kindness for granted.

Eddie’s greatest joys were found on the water, at the track, and in the company of those he held dear. He loved fishing and spent his life alongside his best friend, Richard. Their bond was unbreakable, stretching from the carefree days of childhood—riding bikes, playing baseball, and just being boys—into an adulthood filled with boating adventures and their cherished annual fishing trips on the Capt. Stacy charter in Atlantic Beach.

Eddie was preceded in death by his loving parents, Jefferson C. Dunn and Eileen Theresa Finn Dunn.

He is survived by his brother, Daniel J. Dunn, and his wife Brenda of Statesville, NC, as well as a community of friends who will miss his gentle presence and bright smile.

In accordance with his wishes, a private memorial service will be held to celebrate Eddie's life.
