Elizabeth O’Bryan Venant, 81, of Beaufort, NC and Paris, France, passed away in her sleep on May 18, 2025 after a short illness.
Elizabeth was born in Greensboro, NC to Allen D. O’Bryan II and his wife, Jane Crabtree O’Bryan. In December, 1962 Elizabeth was presented at the Greensboro Debutante Ball. She later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill, graduating in 1965 with a degree in English and Journalism.
After graduation, Elizabeth landed in New York City where she met her future husband, Pierre, a photojournalist. Pierre and Elizabeth married on August 17,1974, then relocated to Los Angeles, CA where Elizabeth was a writer for the LA Times.
Their wandering spirits subsequently transported the couple to Pierre’s home country of France where they established a residence in the Paris countryside. Unfortunately, Pierre passed away in August, 2023 after 53 years of a wonderful marriage.
The couple had traveled extensively, summering in Beaufort, NC in Elizabeth’s ancestral home, which originally belonged to Ma Taylor, a long-time Beaufort resident. Elizabeth was an avid reader, gardener, and published many poetry books and journalistic articles during her career. Although the couple had no children, Elizabeth is survived by many loving cousins who are descendants of Ma and Pa Taylor.
