Jonathan "Lee" Morris

Jonathan “Lee” Morris, 53, of Atlantic, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, at his home.

A proud graduate of East Carteret High School, Lee went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Coast Guard for ten years. His time in service reflected a deep commitment to duty and a strong connection to the sea-an element that remained central throughout his life.

After his military service, Lee continued working on and around boats in Carteret County, where he built a life rooted in craftsmanship and maritime tradition. A self-taught carpenter and skilled craftsman, he brought care and precision to every project he undertook.

Lee's greatest joy came from sharing the waters of Core Sound with those close to him. Whether casting lines with family and friends or preparing the "catch of the day" over an open flame, these moments captured his love for nature, community, and simple pleasures.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Hatteras Descendants Cemetery, 257 Shell Road, Atlantic, NC.

He is survived by his three children; Morgan Taylor Morris and wife, Casey of Sterling, VA; Zachary Holt Morris of Newport; Mackenzie Leigh Morris of Newport; three grandchildren, Chloe Morris of New Tazewell, TN; Blair and Brynn Morris of Sterling, VA; his parents, Wallace and Donna Morris of Atlantic; sister, Janie Fahnestock and husband, Jim, of Havelock.
