Joyce Small Jones

Joyce Small Jones, 76, of Harkers Island, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at her home.

A devoted member of Refuge Fellowship Church for over 50 years, Mrs. Jones served faithfully as both a pastor and Sunday School teacher, dedicating her life to spiritual guidance and community service. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and congregation left a lasting impact on those who worshipped alongside her.

In addition to her ministry, Mrs. Jones worked at the shirt factory in Morehead City, where she was known for her diligence and strong work ethic. Later in life, she extended her compassion by serving as a caregiver for the elderly, offering comfort and support to those in need.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Refuge Fellowship Church with Pastor Manley Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 Sunday at the church. A recording of the service will be available at noefs.net.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elbert Jones of Harkers Island; son, Elbert Clinton Jones Jr. and wife, Sherry of Bettie; daughter, Twyla Dawn Guthrie and husband, Bobby of Gloucester; son, Anthony Craig Jones and wife, Bobbi of Beaufort; six grandchildren: Amanda, Justin, Jade, Leura, Rebecca, and Bennie; five great grandchildren: Riley, Liam, Lillian, Savannah, and Chase; sister, Sherry LaRue of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, JD and Hazel Small; and her brother, David Small.
