Marshall Saunders III

Marshall Doctrine Saunders III, affectionately known as "Little Doc," passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 44.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Atlantic Community Cemetery.

Born on July 26, 1982, to Doc and Becky Saunders of Atlantic, North Carolina, Little Doc loved his hometown and was proud to call Atlantic home. Growing up, he could often be found riding bikes with friends, swimming to White Point, or spending countless hours out on the boat enjoying the waters he loved.

Little Doc attended Atlantic Elementary School and graduated from East Carteret High School with the Class of 2000. Following graduation, he attended Pitt Community College and Carteret Community College. Gifted with a brilliant mind and an exceptional talent for electrical work, he excelled at anything involving electricity. He was employed for 10 years as an electronics technician with Huntington Ingalls Industries at Atlantic OLF, where his knowledge, work ethic, and dedication were well respected.

In September 2011, Little Doc's greatest blessing, his daughter Madolynn, was born. He often said that Madolynn was his greatest accomplishment in life. She was the center of his world, and he worked tirelessly to ensure she had everything she needed. His love and devotion to her were evident whenever he talked about her.

Little Doc loved fiercely. He cared deeply for his family and friends and was never afraid to stand up for those he loved. Generous to a fault, he would gladly give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. His infectious personality, quick wit, and larger-than-life presence made him the heart of every gathering, and he never met a stranger.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved daughter, Madolynn Saunders of Otway, NC; his parents, Doc and Becky Saunders of Atlantic, NC; his brothers, Jamie Daniels (Jennifer) of Cedar Island, NC and Travis Saunders of Atlantic, NC; his nephew, Ayden Daniels of Beaufort, NC; his nieces, Olivia Rimmer of Beaufort, NC and Raegan Saunders of Atlantic, NC; his grandmother, Beth Saunders of Atlantic, NC; his companion Tonya Juarez of Atlantic, NC; and a slew of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Neil and Judy Daniels, and his paternal grandfather, Marshall "Skeeter" Saunders.

Little Doc will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering loyalty, brilliant mind, and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him. His love for his family, his friends, and his hometown will live on through the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
