Marvin Lorenzo Whitney, 73, of Morehead City, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Cherry Point Bay Nursing Home in Havelock.
Marvin dedicated much of his career to healthcare, working at several hospitals in New York before returning to North Carolina. Upon his return, he joined Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, where he served in the Central Sterile Unit until his retirement. His commitment to his work left a lasting impact on those he worked with and the community he served.
A devoted member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Morehead City, where he served as a Church Usher. Marvin found strength and purpose in his faith. He was known for his unwavering dedication and active participation within the church community.
Marvin will be remembered as a loving husband and father who cherished his family deeply. His role as a family man was central to his life, and those who knew him will forever hold dear the love and care he shared.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Morehead City. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Horton Whitney of Morehead City; daughter, Keisha Boutin and husband, Pierre of Queens, NY; daughter, Lesley Nieuwkerk and husband, Sam of Brooklyn, NY; Alejandra Nieuwkerk of Bronx, NY; daughter, Portia Hargrove of Staten Island, NY; son, Marvin Hargove Jr. and wife, Mia of Newport; stepdaughter, Deidra Felton of Morehead City; stepson, Derk Rogers of Taiwan; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; mother, Edna Lee Whitney of Sandford, NC; sister, Margaret Burton of Silverdale, NC; sister, Virginia Partridge of Hubert; brother, Manuel Whitney of Hubert; brother, Donald Whitney of Hubert; brother, Marcus Whitney of Greensboro; sister, Monette Daniels and husband, Floyd of Zebulon; sister, Joyce Williams and husband, Shawn of Sandford; brother, Dennis Whitney of Aulander, NC.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Whitney; and three brothers, Clifton, Milton and Curtis Whitney.
