Merita Carol Chadwick was born in Beaufort, North Carolina, on April 28, 1933. She passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at her home in Beaufort, surrounded by her loving family.

Carol spent most of her life in Beaufort, with a few years as a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia. After returning to Beaufort, she graduated from Beaufort High School and went to East Carolina Teachers College. She later married Harry Sheldon Davis and, together, raised three children.

Carol was known for her quick wit, compassion, and unwavering commitment to family and community. A proud member of the First Baptist Church of Beaufort, she dedicated many years to public service through her work with the Carteret County Department of Social Services. After retiring, she remained deeply committed to her community. Her passion for service continued as she served with distinction as a county commissioner.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Smith, her father, Dan Chadwick, her husband, Harry Sheldon Davis, and her son, Sheldon Davis.

She is survived by her children, Leslie Carol Davis, Christopher Scott Davis (Sharon Davis), and her grandson, Ashley Harrison Davis (Mary Alice Davis).
