Patrick “Pat” Wayne Murphy, 64, of Marshallberg/Beaufort, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 21, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and quiet generosity.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Ann St. United Methodist Church in Beaufort. Burial will follow at Victoria Cemetery in Marshallberg. The family will receive friends prior, from 1:00-1:45pm at the Eure building. A livestream video of the service will be available below.
Born on February 22, 1962, as the third child to his beloved parents Jean & Lester Murphy, Sr. Pat was a man shaped by the water, the work, and the people he loved. He graduated from East Carteret High School in 1980. From the young age of 15, he began working alongside his father at Aviation Fuel Terminal. What began as a job became a lifelong career, where Pat built not only a reputation as a hardworking and dependable man, but also made lifelong friendships. When AFT changed to Radio Island Terminal Operators, he was also able to work with the State Port in Morehead City loading and unloading barges. He proudly obtained his Merchant Marine Tankerman’s ticket.
Pat was the kind of man you could always count on, the constant, the helper, the one who showed up. He had a servant’s heart, quietly giving to others. He was known as the “life of the party”, and a loyal friend, with a kind heart and tender soul.
In recent years, Pat achieved something he was incredibly proud of; over three years of sobriety through AA. That journey gave him precious time to reconnect deeply with those he loved most and create lasting memories that his family will cherish forever. It also gave him renewed faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which led him to find his new church family at Ann Street United Methodist Church.
Above all, Pat loved his family. He and his former wife, Billee Hancock, had two wonderful daughters that they raised together in Marshallberg. He was a devoted father to his “girls” and his sons-in-laws, Kendra (Josh) and Kelli (Mikey), and a proud and deeply loved “Papa Pat” to his four grandsons: Brayden, Noah, Seth, and Dylan. His family was his greatest pride and joy. He was the beloved “baby brother” of Cynthia and Lester Gray. They shared a close bond like “three peas in a pod”. He equally loved his brother-in-law, Bill Downum and sister-in-law, Carol. The love continued on to many nieces and nephews to whom he was known as “Uncle Pat”. Lastly, he shared a special bond with his adored labradoodle, Birdie, who brought him comfort and companionship through some of his most difficult times.
Pat found peace and purpose on the water. When in better health, he was an avid shrimper, but even when he couldn’t go shrimping, he was known for his “little black book” of loyal customers who returned, year after year, to place their orders with him. Whether on his boat fishing, hunting, or enjoying fresh seafood, he was happiest living the coastal life he loved.
Though his passing leaves a deep void, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with his mother and father, and free from pain.
Pat will be remembered for his kindness, his giving heart, his dependability, and his unwavering love. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the friends he impacted, and the countless quiet acts of goodness he carried out throughout his life.
Fair winds and following seas, Pat (Daddy/Papa Pat/Uncle Pat/Patrick/Patrick Wayne/Porky Pig/Pork)-- until we meet again. LUMI
