Thomas "Larry" Bearden, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
Born on June 10, 1946, in Demorest, Georgia, Larry was the son of Frank and Mabel Bearden. He proudly served his country as an Army medic during the Vietnam War, a role that reflected his lifelong desire to care for and help others.
Larry spent much of his career managing the Southern States store in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he was known for his dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic. Retirement didn't slow him down. He continued driving trucks for Salmons Farms, enjoying the opportunity to stay busy and connected with the community. In 2020, Larry moved to Newport, North Carolina, to be closer to his family. He quickly made Sea Gate his home, becoming the familiar friendly face at the marina and a cherished neighbor and friend. Whether sharing a conversation, lending a helping hand, or simply greeting everyone with a smile, Larry had a way of making people feel welcome.
More than anything, Larry treasured being "Granddaddy" and "Great-Granddaddy". He cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. He also found peace in the mountains of North Georgia and North Carolina, places that always felt like home to him. He looked forward to game nights with his friends and neighbors in the Sea Gate community and adored his spirited one-year-old black Labrador, Mac.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Shepard (Micah) of Beaufort, NC; his son, Thomas Bearden (Jenny) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Katelyn Wallace (Clay) of Hubert, NC, Cody Shepard (Demi) of Beaufort, NC, Vance Bearden, and Violet Bearden; great-grandchildren, Addie and Ellie; his brother, Tim Bearden (Carol) of Collierville, TN; and many beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mabel Bearden, and his brother, Terry Bearden.
A Celebration of Larry's Life will be held at 4:00 pm on August 22, 2026, at Rooster Park in Sea Gate, 546 Sea Gate Drive, Newport, NC 28570.
