William “Bill” Hamilton Jr., 80, of Beaufort, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Bridgeway Church in Beaufort. A private burial will take place at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort.
A graduate of East Carolina University, Bill earned a degree in geography with a minor in history. He began his professional life as an educator, teaching for five years in Vanceboro and Virginia Beach, Virginia. His passion for leadership and business later led him to become the CEO of the family business Hamilton Furniture Company in Beaufort, a role he held with dedication for over 40 years.
Throughout his life, Bill was known for his deep care for others. He counseled young people and built lasting friendships that enriched both his life and the lives of those around him. His wife fondly remembers him as “one of a kind,” a sentiment echoed by many who knew him.
Bill had a wide range of interests that brought him joy. He was an avid collector of music and found peace in fishing. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played baseball and softball with enthusiasm and skill. His competitive spirit also shone through when he earned the title of State ping pong champion.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Hamilton of Beaufort; brother, Robert “Bob” Hamilton of Beaufort; niece, Robin Hamilton Connell and husband Brad of Beaufort; nephew, William Bryan Hamilton and wife Kindra of Morehead City; sister-in-law, Janet Courtney and husband Ray of Beaufort; brother-in-law, Thurman Holmes Brister of Beaufort; brother-in-law Al Brister and wife Teresa of Morehead City; brother-in-law Bryan Brister Gautier, MS; cousin, Roy Lupton of Virginia Beach, VA.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy Hamilton Sr. and Ann Clyde Hamilton.
