William Thomas Simmons

William Simmons, 82, of Beaufort passed away on Sunday June 5, 2022 at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at 12:00pm, prior to the funeral. 

William is survived by his wife Margaret, of the home; daughter, Matilda Stewart, and husband Martin, son, Charles Simmons of Tacoma, Washington; 6 grandchildren: Martin Stewart Jr. of Coatsville, PA, wife Belinda; Jason Simmons of Beaufort; Xavier Stewart of Beaufort; Kayla Stewart of Beaufort; Charles Simmons Jr. of Tacoma WA; Anthony Simmons of Tacoma, WA; 7 great-grandchildren: Saania, Jacia, Elizabeth, Trey, Naomi, Anthony II, and Aniyah.

His mother, Olivia Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA who is over 100 years old; his 3 brothers: Hubert Wallace, wife Lorraine or Morgan City, LA; Claude Wallace and wife Hilda of Beaufort;  Jeffrey Taylor of Morehead City; his 3 sisters: Judy Dore of Virginia Beach, VA; Betty Ann Taylor of Havelock, NC; Kathleen McDonald of Beaufort.

William is preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Simmons, and 3 of his brothers: Frizzelle Wallace, James Collins and Tommie Wallace.

William received his education from Queen St. High School of Beaufort where he was also the Bus Driver. He joined Mt. Tabor Church at an early age and served as a choir member. He also collected money for Men’s Day to build a new church. He worked for over 25 years at Waste Industries as a truck driver.

He received a certificate for welding from Carteret Community College. He was also active in his community and a member of the North River / Laurel Rd. Volunteer Fire Department.
